Haven't update the blog in awhile, but our store is still going in full blast. We even worked during the Christmas holidays!
As usual, we post a selection of our recent work on our Past Orders page.
Good luck to all the 2010 brides and grooms!

Marrying next year - Is it too early to order?
Happy September! This is the first year this store is operating online, and frankly I'm surprised to be kept as busy as I am by autumn brides. The past month has been filled with rush, last-minute orders for September and October weddings. However, we're definitely heading into the "quieter" winter wedding season, and instead of spending time answering quote requests, recently the most frequently asked question has been: "my wedding is next summer (or spring), when should I place my order?"
It's entirely up to you, but the short answer would be "as soon as possible", and there are lots of good reasons for it! Listing a few...
- we use materials that don't really have an expiry date anytime soon (that is, within a decade or more, for example: feathers, dried plants)
- if budget is a concern: placing an order during the low season more likely results in bigger discounts, because I can take the time to find good prices for the materials to create your flowers
- having the wedding flowers in your possession solidifies your wedding colour theme... helps a lot especially if you've been indecisive about your colours!
I'll admit I'm quite into good organization and planning. I'm the type of person who likes to do things well ahead of time. If I am a bride-to-be (which I am!!! set for August 2010), I would have no qualms about buying non-perishable wedding items 6 months to 1 year away from my wedding. One less thing to worry about!

Featured by Boutonnieres and Bow Ties

We are honoured to be featured by Samantha in her blog Boutonniere and Bow Ties! I love her blog because it has the grooms in mind. She also runs 9tailors, the place to buy the custom-made (where DIY stands for "design-it-yourself") dress shirts. If you're ever stuck on how to dress your groom, send a picture of your wedding dress to weddings@9tailors.com and I'm sure Samantha and her tailors will find the perfect match! What a great idea!

A good kind of busy...

Too busy to blog, and for a very happy reason! Blue Flourish is still quite a new store, and I'm happy with the way things have been going. I've been busy all weekend long working on eight different orders. So far the feedback has been very positive! Thank you for everyone's support!
With that, brides wishing to order should contact me as soon as possible with their wedding date and size of their order. Bookings are confirmed after payment, but at least it's a good idea to make sure my availability works with your date. I would never take on more than I can handle, so to ensure the best quality in each order. Thanks!

Soon to come - corsages
We're planning to release a few corsage designs to go with boutonnieres over the next few weeks! The ladies are going to love the elegance of feathers and pearls in this new line of products. They would look nice as a wrist corsage, but it would also be beautiful to wear them in your hair, or as a brooch to be pinned to your clothes. Stay tuned!
Our first corsage to appear was actually the ladies' version of "Wedding Tweets".

New fascinators
A couple of new additions - floral and feather fascinators!

I've also been working on a mini feather fascinator. They're so small and feel less... "loud" I think. Maybe short girls like would match well with these smaller accessories!

Soon to come - floral fascinators

We've been working hard on a new line of floral fascinators! Somehow, I find it very satisfying to hand-cut flower petals, and arrange them one by one... I guess it's seeing a flower "grow" in my hands that make this process so wonderful. We had a photoshoot this Sunday, so stay tuned for these new fascinators to appear in our shop!

www.blueflourish.com reopens!
Finally! After a full week of work, the server move is now complete and our official shop website at http://www.blueflourish.com/ is now in full operation! There's been a little bit of redesign at the navigation level, but the flavour remains the same. Please visit the shop and enjoy your stay there! It's been a pleasure to design it!

Website Overhaul
The Blue Flourish store website is only about two weeks old, but I'm switching hosts. I built the website with Google Sites (now Google Apps, which is technically not a "host") thinking that it is easily manageable. It is, sort of. There are far too many limitations for eCommerce which I had not forseen, given that my prior experience has been institutional or personal sites. I'm switching my host entirely to Netfirms, and I'm currently writing the code for my website without the help of Google. Anyways, this is what I'll be doing over the next week or so. The new site format would not be so different from my current site, which I'll keep running until the construction of the new one is done.
Meanwhile, I'm still going to be busy uploading new items to Etsy within the next few days.
